Did you know?
In 2016...
Nearly 80% of Pennsylvania counties have fatal overdose rates
that exceed the national average.
Pennsylvania’s rate is 36.5 fatal overdoses per 100,000 people.
The most recently published national rate is 16.3 per 100,000 people. In 2016, that equated to 4,642 deaths -- up 37% from 2015.
The numbers tell a bleak story for Butler County: The opioid crisis
continues to grow.
As of July of 2017, there have been 43 reported overdose deaths
in Butler County.

The Philadelphia division of the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency released a new analysis
of Pennsylvania fatal overdoses on July 27, 2017. (Associated Press )
With opiate addiction at epidemic levels this training seminar focuses on
the neurology of addiction, with an emphasis on heroin and painkillers.
The use of drugs not only affects the user on a personal level, but also has
a profound negative effect on those who are close to, and interact with the
user. Moreover, drugs of choice change and evolve in communities over time.
No matter the type of case, they all have the potential to involve a participant
who is suffering from substance abuse. It it is important for treatment, law
enforcement, and legal professionals, as well as the community in general to
recognize and understand the drug issues that plague many Americans, and
find ways to effectively deal with the issue to reduce recidivism. This course
provides an in-depth analysis on the science behind drug addiction, and offers
practical solutions on how to effectively manage these types of cases.
